I’m New Here

Hello and Welcome! We’re glad you’re here!

Fairfield Presbyterian Church is a friendly, growing, Christ-centered congregation rooted in a strong past and branching out into the future. We have strong ministries in the areas of worship, education (for all ages), music, and youth ministry. We invite you to worship with us if you’re in the neighborhood (or online, if you’re not)!

Want to know more? You can explore this page of questions, or just browse around our website. If there’s a question you have that’s not answered here, feel free to contact our office or either of our pastors. They will be happy to speak with you!

Where Is Fairfield?

Fairfield is located at 6930 Cold Harbor Rd in Mechanicsville, VA, 23111. The driveway is on a curve on Cold Harbor Rd., so sometimes it is tricky to see. Visit our Directions page to see a map and get parking information.

When is Worship?

Fairfield has two worship services each Sunday morning, 9:00 am and 11:00 am, and we live stream both services. Worship is approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. We also have worship services at other times, including Blue Christmas, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunrise, among others. Check our worship calendar to see when these services are scheduled.

What Can I Expect at Worship?

Our 9:00 am worship is led by our praise band, whose music is a mix of current hits and new arrangements of old favorites. At our 11:00 am worship, the music is led by piano, organ, and choir. You’re just as likely to hear Bach as you are jazz. Occasionally, our handbell choir adds another musical dimension to our worship.

In both worship services, we’ll listen to the same bible-based, applicable message given by either our Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Steve Starzer or our Associate Pastor, Rev. Mike Watson. Past message series include “Views of the Incarnation,” about the heresies of the early church, and “The Great I AMs,” the 7 “I AM” statements made by Jesus.

Both services are also family-friendly, so feel free to bring your little ones! However, a nursery is available, if needed.

What Should I Wear?

“Clothes” would be the obvious answer. 😁 At Fairfield, we don’t have a dress code. Wear what you are comfortable in. The 9:00 am worship does tend to be a little more casual than the 11:00 am worship, but the general range is from “Sporty Casual” to “Business Casual.”

Are There Activities for My Children?

Yes! After a short children’s message during 9:00 am worship, the 3-4 year olds through 2nd graders have the option to go to Kids Worship for the remainder of the service. Kids Worship will be based off of Sermons4Kids and will be a very basic lesson (this lesson is not in place of the Sunday School curriculum, just in addition).

Between the services, at 10:00 am, there are Christian Education Classes for all ages. Ask one of our friendly greeters for help finding your classroom.

There is a children’s message also during 11:00 am worship, but no outside children’s activities.

If you would like more information, visit our Sunday School classes for Pre-K through 3rd grade, or Sunday School classes for 4th through 8th grades.

What About Adults?

Yes! We also have Christian Education classes for adults at 10:00 am. There are several styles of class to choose from. You can read about them on our “Adults Christian Education” page, or ask one of our friendly greeters about them. Fairfield also hosts occasional, short-term adult Bible studies throughout the year. Visit our Christian Education events calendar to see when these are scheduled.
